Is it possible to transform a former tram, acquired as a worn-out rotted shell, into an exact copy of its original condition?
This display shows how it is being done to rebuild Launceston Tram 1 and restore it to operational condition.
However first we need to go back in time and see how Tram 1 was originally built in 1911. That will provide an interesting comparison with the rebuilding program today. It will also give you an appreciation of some of the challenges involved.
