Most of the trams which were sold off when the Launceston service ended in 1952 went on to enjoy interesting, and in some cases, bizarre retirements. What became of them is the theme of an exhibition featured in the shell of former Tram 23.
This tram's previous external appearance as a ‘Chook House’ has been preserved along with ‘improvements’ that a previous owner had made when the tram served as a moveable picnic hut on his property. Those improvements comprised a set of wheels and a turntable which allowed the tram to be hauled down to the local river in summertime.
